    This is Laura, the author of the post, see you shared it, hope you find my view useful.
    I have lived in 4 different countries so far, I think that I only find this kind of questions umcomfortable when they are asked almost every day / I am trying to get somewhere but instead the person is looking for a talk…etc. After all when you are trying to exit the metro, cross a street, you get into a taxi….does not seem the best moment to start a chat, since it implies someone will start moving.
    I never get asked this kind of question when I am having a drink, or I just sit down to relax…I find it quite interesting!

    1. Great to hear of your experiences. It is a matter of knowing when and how to react when you are asked with this type of inquiries. Culturally, it is always a sensitive matter.
